*This item is made to order and ships in 1-2 weeks from Australia - Radius boards for bracing a tops and backs - CNC machined with an accurate 15', 20', 28' & 40' radius - Durable MDF construction - 600mm x 600mm - Optional 60 grit Sandpaper Disc for shaping braces & sides These boards are dished with a perfect concave to match the radius in a guitar's top or back. They can be used to clamp on the braces during gluing in a go-bar box. Sandpaper can be attached to the surface of the concave turning it into a perfectly shaped sanding block to shape the guitar's sides to match the curve in the back, or sand the underside of a brace to a perfect curve. (instructions below) The radii used depends on the guitar being made but 15' is the most common radius for the back and 28' is the most common radius for backs. Radii available- 15’ Radius for Backs 20’ Radius for Backs 28’ Radius for Tops 40’ Radius for Tops (also available in sets of 2)
To Shape a Top Brace or Back Brace - Start by marking the approximate radius on the brace and cutting it using a saw or plane. Finish the shaping of the radius by rubbing the brace length ways on the Sandpaper Disc surface of the Radius Dish. It will shape a perfect curve into the brace. Be careful to keep the brace vertical during this process.

To Shape the Guitar Sides - The sides of the guitar should be shaped to match the curve of the Back (the sides are usually not shaped for the Top and left straight on the Top edge).

The most accurate way to shape in the sides to match the back radius is using the Radius Board. Start by marking the shape into the sides by using the Radius Board as a template and carving the excess off with a plane. Once the shape is close, rub the Radius Board with Sandpaper Disc surface on the sides to shape the perfect convex shape into the sides.
