These first grade blanks are suitable for cutting all types or bracing. It is conventional to use German Spruce for the bracing of classical guitars with German Spruce or Western Red Cedar tops. German Spruce is often used for the bracing of steel string acoustic guitars with German Spruce tops but some makers prefer to use Sitka Spruce for the bracing as it is stiffer. These blanks are also suitable for the bracing and blocks in a violin or mandolin. - Straight grained and quartersawn from split billets - Minimum size 50mm x 20mm x 510mm (2" x 3/4" x 20") - Dried and ready for use Please note - Brace stock is sold by the piece, generally multible pieces are needed for one guitar - Steel string acoustic top - 2 pieces Steel string acoustic back - 1 piece Classical guitar top - 1-2 pieces (depending on bracing pattern)
German Spruce has been favoured as a top material on stringed instruments for many centuries. It has become the staple top material for violin-family instruments and is also commonly used for soundboards on classical, acoustic and archtop guitars.
