String Retainers (also known as string trees, string tees and string guides) are used on the headstocks of Fender®-style bolt-on necks. They are available in a range of different styles and colours but all do the same thing, pull the strings down on a sharper angle over the nut, creating more force on the nut slot and reducing the chance of string-buzzing. Some guitars use two String Retainers, some only use one. If your guitar only uses one just use one out of the set. - Vintage Strat® or Tele® style - Set of 2 - 'Relic' aged finish - Nickel plated - Includes 2 mounting screws - Includes 1 low + 1 high spacers - Made in Japan The 'Relic' series of hardware from Gotoh has been aged using various processes to make it look as close as possible to the hardware on a well-worn vintage guitar. The aged appearance is purely aesthetic and the parts function as new. These parts are perfect for replacing the worn out original parts on vintage guitars or to give a new guitar some character. Gotoh guitar and bass parts are some of the highest quality components available. Considering the price Gotoh is an excellent choice for any new instrument or replacement.
To mount a string retainer have the strings already on the guitar with the nut installed.

Position the retainer on top of the two strings and use the hole to make a mark on the headstock.

Drill a 2mm pilot hole deep enough for the screw.
