Nut files are used to create or modify the slots in guitar and bass nuts.

These diamond-coated steel files are specially designed for nut slotting. They are made to various widths to match the diameters of strings. The half-round edge profile cuts a round bottom in the slot to match the string profile.

Nut slots should be cut with a slight angle to the fingerboard surface, so the string bares on an edge where the nut meets the fingerboard.

The files are suitable for all materials including bone, plastic, graphite, Tusq and brass.
