Precision Router Base + Soundhole & Rosette Jig
$212.00
This jig is the ultimate tool to cut rosette trenches and soundholes in soundboards. The jig attaches to our Precision Router Base so that a Dremel tool can be used to make the cuts. It works a bit like a compass. The jig and router spin around a steel pin to cut perfect circular trenches of any diameter. It's best to use a Downcut Router Bit to give the cleanest cut. Please see below for complete instructions. - Precision machined - Solid aluminium and brass construction - Adjusts from 2" to 6" (50.8mm to 152.4mm) diameter cuts - Indexing scale to quickly set routing diameter - 4mm centre pin included to be installed in base board - Mounting screws included
How to Use

The jig should be mounted to our Precision Router Base and used with a Dremel router with a fresh Downcut Router bit installed.

A steel centre pin is included which is installed in a plywood or MDF baseboard. Drill a 4mm hole in the soundboard in the centre of where the rosette is to be installed and fit the soundboard over the pin.

Then adjust the Soundhole and Rosette Cutting Jig to the correct depth to match the rosette and correct diameter using the fine adjuster and lock off its position. The tool is then ready to route a trench. The diameter can be adjusted as many times as needed to get a perfectly fitting rosette.

Once the rosette is installed the soundhole can be cut through the thickness of the top.

It is important that a fresh downcut bit is used as it will give the cleanest cut. A diameter of 1/16" or 3/32" is ideal. Going very slow with the cutting will also help make a clean cut, a full rotation should take around 2 minutes.

Our Precision Router Base is an absolute must have tool for any luthier or guitar repairer.

It turns a Dremel or other rotary tool into a mini router with a range of uses including routing inlay cavities, routing rosette trenches and widening fret slots.

Assembly is simple and takes only seconds as the Dremel or similar tool screws straight into the base.

The depth of the route can be precisely adjusted using two thumb wheels. One rotation of the thumbwheels equals a 0.04” (1mm) change in the depth of the cut.

Very accurate cavities can be created for Mother of Pearl and Abalone inlays, making for a better fit and less need for filler.

It is recommended to use the Precision Router Base in combination with our Downcut Inlay Router Bits. This will give the cleanest and most accurate cut. The smaller diameter bits can be used for cutting tight corners while the larger bits are better for removing larger areas of wood.

The built-in air nozzle allows a small air pump or low-pressure compressor to be fitted to blow dust away. An aquarium pump is ideal for this task.
