Dimensions - 697mm x 111mm x 24mm First Grade Tasmanian Blackwood Tasmanian Blackwood is possibly the most successful and famous Australian guitar timber. Its beautiful grain and acoustic qualities have made it a prized timber for the backs and sides of acoustic guitars. It is also an excellent tone wood for electric guitars. The timber is medium weight, resonant and relatively easy to work with. Grading is based purely on the aesthetic appearance. 1st grade pieces are as free from imperfections as possible and are close to quartersawn. Lower grade pieces are downgraded due to some aesthetic flaw such as discolouration, small knots or being off quartersawn.
