Quality - Our African Mahogany (Khaya Ivorensis) body blanks have straight grain and an even golden brown colour. Mahogany can come from many places throughout the world. However, traditionally Brazilian or Cuban Mahogany has become very hard to obtain in a good quality, African Mahogany has many of the same attributes as the South American wood.

Look - Mahogany is a rich brown/gold colour. The Khaya Mahogany which we sell is much closer in look to South American Mahogany than the the other African Mahogany also known as Sapele Mahogany. The grain, which has a reasonably average spacing, is very dark brown almost black. This grain is particularly open and will require filling before finishing.

Price - African mahogany is medium priced timber and is relatively inexpensive compared to some other similar timbers.

Availability/Renewability - African Mahogany is still widely available.
