Electric guitars with an arched top, such as Les Paul and PRS styles, need a thick cap on the front of the body. The thickness of the cap allows for the carving of the deep arch which gives these guitars their beautiful look. The cap is glued onto the front of a regular body blank. The body is often made of a more plain timber such as Mahogany. Curly American Maple is the most traditional timber for carved-top Les Paul models. It's dense but relatively easy to work with. It has a beautiful, subtle figure and the colour is even and light making it suitable for a variety of clear, sunburst and coloured finishes. *Please Note* - Outline is for reference only, the blank in large enough for all standard size guitars and basses. - Cap for a carved-top solidbody electric guitar or bass - 2 x Book-matched halves - First grade - Individually photographed - the set in the photo is the set you will receive - Photo in darker shade is photographed with alcohol applied to surface to replicate finished colour - Highly figured - Thickness approximately 18mm - Minimum 585mm long x 193mm wide

Curly American Maple is the most frequently used timber on the top of carved-top electric guitars. It has been used on the majority of Gibson's Les Paul models, including the famous '59 Standard and is used by many other brands including PRS.

It has excellent tonal properties, especially when it's laminated to a Mahogany body. The colour is pale and even so it's ideal for all sorts of finishes.

It's relatively easy to work with though sharp tools are a must, as with any figured timber. It planes, scrapes and sands well and does not require grain filling before finishing.
