Electric guitars with an arched top, such as Les Paul and PRS styles, need a thick cap on the front of the body. The thickness of the cap allows for the carving of the deep arch which gives these guitars their beautiful look. The cap is glued onto the front of a regular body blank. The body is often made of a more plain timber such as Mahogany. This 2-piece Camphor Laurel blank exhibits beautiful grain and would make a perfect piece for finishing with a clear or translucent finish. Camphor has only been used in recent times in guitar making but it has great potential for both acoustic and electric guitars. It has a good sound that's somewhere between Mahogany and European Maple. The look is distinct and beautiful with bold streaks of red contrasted against a light background. It's economical and locally sourced. The logs used are from trees cut down for other reasons such as wind damage or clearing for building works, making it more environmentally friendly than imported rain forest species. The wood has a very characteristic scent, that makes it a pleasure to work with. It has a medium texture with a high natural luster and a slightly greasy feel. Its moderate density makes it easy to shape and machine with minimal effort. It glues and finishes well. - Figured with nice colour - Two-Piece - Sanded smooth and flat on underside - Rough sawn on face to be carved - Thicknessed to 18mm - Minumum width189mm (each half) - Length 468mm - Individually photographed - the set in the photo is the set you will receive - The picture with darker shade is photographed with alcohol applied to surface to replicate finished colour
