Cooktown Ironwood (Erythropleum Chlorostachys) is similar to ebony in hardness and density, making it an excellent choice for fingerboards.
It has a light brown/tan colour when first cut with a subtle flamed figure, the colour oxidises to more of a redish brown with exposure to light and oxygen.
