Foam polishing pads are perfect for applying polishing compounds and buffing lacquer finishes to a high-gloss. The gentle polishing action helps avoid swirl marks, fine scratches and burn-through, leaving a beautiful mirror-gloss surface. - Fiber-free foam buffing pad - Faster than hand buffing - Large size with 5-1/2" diameter - Easy to apply polishes such as ColorTone compounds - Leaves no swirl marks on finish - With 1/4" arbor, can be used in a drill press or hand drill For the small shop or casual builder, this is a great way to get factory-quality finishes without tedious hand polishing or expensive buffing equipment. Larger well-equipped shops find foam pads handy for getting into tight areas for fast spot refinishing, too. Each pad has a 1/4" arbor—you can use it in a drill press or variable-speed hand drill. Important: A separate pad should be used for each grade of polishing compound, to avoid adding scratches to the finish. Apply the compounds in sequence, from coarse to fine grades.
Cutting back and polishing should be done once the finish is fully cured. For nitrocellulose lacquer a minimum of 2 weeks curing time will give the best results.

Cutting Back with Sandpaper
The finish is first cut back using 800-1200 grit wet and dry sandpaper. The sandpaper should be soaked in water with a small amount of detergent. Sand the finish back until it is flat and almost all signs of gloss are removed. A few small glossy spots are acceptable.

Be careful not to sand through the finish. Extra care should be taken along edges.

Polishing with Compound
Start with Medium compound. Add a little compound to the instrument or the buffer. Use very gentle pressure and be careful not to burn or buff through the finish, especially on the edges.

Follow up with the Fine compound for a super high-gloss finish.

The Swirl Remover is used to remove buffing marks from the polishes.
