This specially made file is used for deburring and smoothing off the ends of the frets on a guitar or other fretted instrument. This means the ends will be less sharp and less likely to be uncomfortable while playing the instrument. Sharp fret ends are especially problematic after the fingerboard shrinks a little and the frets stick out the sides of the board. By rounding off the corners of the frets on a new guitar they will not become a nuisance as they begin to protrude out the sides of the fingerboard over time. The file can also be used on older guitars which already have sharp or protruding fret ends. - High quality - Made in Japan - Suitable for any size fretwire - 2 cutting sides, 2 smooth sides - Hardened steel - 150mm total length - 2mm x 3mm profile
Fine file for dressing and smoothing the ends of frets - Deburrs fret ends and eliminates sharp corners, for more comfortable playing.

The file has two smooth edges, these are used against the timber fingerboard and are smooth so they will safely glide over the timber and not dig into the fingerboard. The cutting edges are then used to take off the corners of the fret.

With a little practice a full fingerboard only takes a matter of minutes. There is no need to take off a lot of the fret, just the very corner. One or two strokes on each corner of each fret may be all that is needed.

It is ideal to round the corner of the fret off right down to where it meets the fingerboard, so particular attention should be given to angling the file so that rounds off this part of the fret and not just the top edge.
