This specially made file is used for deburring and smoothing off the ends of the frets on a guitar or other fretted instrument. This means the ends will be less sharp and less likely to be uncomfortable while playing the instrument.
Sharp fret ends are especially problematic after the fingerboard shrinks a little and the frets stick out the sides of the board. By rounding off the corners of the frets on a new guitar they will not become a nuisance as they begin to protrude out the sides of the fingerboard over time.
The file can also be used on older guitars which already have sharp or protruding fret ends.
