Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia) is one of the most popular timbers used in guitars and basses. It is a popular choice for the the back and sides of acoustic and classical guitars and for the fingerboards, bridges and headplates of all types of instruments.
Indian Rosewood has a dark, rich colour and straight grain with handsome and subtle stripes of mauve, black and brown. The sound of guitars built with Indian Rosewood backs and sides is often described as deep and piano-like.
