Pink Gidgee is a very rare variant of Gidgee. The timber oxidises to an intense pink/purple colour over a few months.
The colour starts off greenish when freshly cut, so allow time to achieve the finished colour.
Gidgee and Mulga are are two of the most beautiful timbers for making guitar fingerboards, bridges and headplates.
These Acacia species are often called 'desert hardwoods' as they grow in the arid regions of Australia. The trees grow naturally with very little moisture content in the wood. This property makes the wood very stable after milling and normal air-drying.
Gidgee is extremely hard, harder than ebony and has a close tight grain. It polishes easily to a semi-gloss lustre.
