This neck blank is big enough to cut 2 x one-piece necks of any standard size for a classical or steel string acoustic. It is the easiest and quickest size blank to make necks from. Individually photographed - The piece in the photos is the piece you will receive. Minimum dimensions - 78mm x 105mm x 750mm (3-1/8" x 4-1/8" x 29-1/2") Queensland Maple has been used for many years in the Australian guitar industry. Australian guitar manufacturer Maton have used this timber for the necks of most of their steel string guitars for several decades. We have found that this local timber also works very well in classical guitars. These Queensland Maple necks and heels are ideal for acoustic or classical guitars. The timber is similar to Mahogany, lightweight, stable and strong, making it ideal for necks. It's straight-grained, carves and sands easily. Grading is based purely on the aesthetic appearance. 1st grade pieces are as free from imperfections as possible and are close to quartersawn. Lower grade pieces are downgraded due to some aesthetic flaw such as discolouration, small knots or being off quartersawn.
Queensland Maple is an excellent timber for making necks and heels. It has a consistency similar to Mahogany and is easy to work with planes and other hand tools as well as to rout for a dovetail or mortice joint.
