Bunya Pine is mainly in North Eastern Australia. Bunya has been used as steel string guitar soundboards with excellent results by Maton Guitars and Cole Clark Guitars, as well as many hand builders over the last decade. It is quickly gaining a reputation as an quality Australian tonewood.
Our Bunya tops are harvested from large old trees. The quartersawn soundboards we stock exhibit good medullar rays. The overall colour is similar to Sitka spruce but boards often display pink, gold and blue hues. The tap tone produces a bright strong note, with good clear even acoustic properties.
First grade, good quality timber, quartersawn no cracks or large/open knots
The grading and pricing is based purely on aesthetic considerations and lower grade tops can make just as good a sounding guitar as the high grades.
