Ceramic capacitors are standard on most electric guitars and basses. They are durable, reliable and economical. The tone control on a guitar is made by attaching a capacitor to a pot. It is best to follow the wiring diagram you are using when choosing capacitor values or copy what is in an existing guitar. - 0.022mf (473) and 0.047mf (473) are used on most guitar and bass pickups (more info below) - 0.033mf (333) are often used on Telecasters - 0.001mf (102) are used in 'Treble Bleed' circuits with a resistor - 0.100mf (104) are used on some guitars and basses

The value of the capacitor will have an impact on the tone control and how much treble is cut off when the knob is turned. The brand and type of capacitor is less significant but many guitarists believe it influences the tone of the guitar.

Capacitor Values
In the early years 0.02 mf (or 0.022 mf) capacitors were commonly used on guitars with humbucker pickups and 0.05 mf (or 0.047 mf) were seen on guitars with single coil pickups.

In recent years this convention has changed and manufactures such as Seymour Duncan are recommending the use of 0.05 mf (or 0.047 mf) for humbuckers and 0.02 mf (or 0.022 mf) for single coils.
