Indian Rosewood is the most popular material for guitar headplates. It has been used by most guitar companies for many decades. Rosewood headplates look great when used with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard as well as other fingerboards such as ebony.
These headplates (headstock veneers) are cut from the finest rosewood, they are dry and ready to use.
Grading is based purely on aesthetic considerations. The first grade timber has a darker, more even colour and is generally more quartersawn with straighter grain. The second grade can be lighter coloured with some streaking and occasionally pinholes or small knots. Some luthiers prefer the look of the second grade as it has more character.
